Japan has a rich history of depicting the horrific and the macabre. Some of my favorite pre-modern gothic artists include Hokusai, Kuniyoshi, Yoshitoshi and Kyosai. Because this rich history of frightening imagery already exists in abundance, it was very easy for me to adapt modern sci-fi horror into the Ukiyo-e style. I just had to follow in the footsteps of my art heroes!
