Note from the artist on this work:
When I lived in Japan, convenience stores (konbini) were a special place. At the time I was struggling to understand the Japanese language (I still do!), and I often felt very lonely. When talking to someone in Japanese, I would misunderstand a single word, and that would change the entire meaning of a sentence. So frustrating! So much uncertainty!
On those difficult days, convenience stores were a safe place, a place I could count on. Walking in the front doors to the sound of 'Irasshaimase!' (Welcome!) made me feel strangely at home. If you've ever lived or traveled in Japan, or seen slice of life anime, I'm sure you can relate.
This print is a love letter to Japanese convenience stores... and also mecha. I love those too.
The left caption says 最速のメカ配送, which means 'the fastest mecha delivery'.
The right caption says 店員さんが「いらっしゃいませ」と声をかけてくれると、いつも安心する, which means 'I always feel at ease when the staff shouts, 'welcome!''.
